The FFA is kicking off their annual fundraiser today. They are selling a variety of products including fruit, beef, cheese, butter braids, pickled herring, custom bricks, and more. Contact an FFA member before November 10th to place your order!
Today Mrs. Paulsen's Comm class worked on writing instructions by building Lego creations. They will describe the order and steps it takes to build these.
High School Parents:
Just a reminder that fall sports photos will be tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13 for football, dance, and cross country athletes. Volleyball players will have photos this Thursday, October 14 after school prior to the game. The photographer will be taking a full group photo as well as individual shots. The photographer has lots of neat options to choose from including: prints, buttons, magnets, posters, banners, memory mates, and yard signs. These are great keepsakes to have for years to come. Even if a student doesn’t plan on ordering any photos, we still need to take his/her photo so that it can be included on the composited/photo shopped images. Please remind students to bring their uniforms, filled out order form, and money (check or exact cash if possible) with them on that day. Thanks so much!
Today the anatomy students had the opportunity to visit with Liz Graham, who talked to the students about her experiences as a nursing student, traveling nurse, & now her career as a nurse in the cath lab at UNMC in Omaha while also taking classes to become a nurse practitioner.

Last night was Senior Night for the volleyball team. Congratulations, ladies. You will be missed!
The students in World History participated in a hieroglyphics challenge. They had to decipher the questions written in hieroglyphs and then answer each question correctly. This was a fun way to review for their Egypt quiz later this week.
Mrs. Blake's 3rd Grade Class started reading buddies this week with the Kindergarten students. They all had so much fun reading and listening to their stories.
Kindergarteners in Mapleton tasted different kinds of apples and decided which color was their favorite. By the looks of a couple of these pictures I'd say some of them were sour!
Last night was a beautiful night to celebrate! From our football team's victory over East Sac County to terrific performances from our band and drill teams to our outstanding cheerleading squad to our youth football teams taking the field at halftime, it was an extra special night of celebration for all involved!
We look forward to many more extracurricular activities ahead this year showcasing our students and bringing everyone together. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Yesterday, in honor of National Fire Safety Week, the students in the Anthon elementary got to meet some local firefighters and check out some of their equipment. Thank you to all of our local volunteer firefighters. We appreciate you!
The Foods I students had their Super Grilled Cheese Competition yesterday, and boy are we sad we didn't get invited to the party!
The Kindergarteners in the Mapleton elementary have been learning about sequencing a series of events. They made apple pie in a cup and sequenced the steps they took to make it. Such a delicious fall treat!
The students in Mrs. Blake's 3rd grade class have been working very hard on writing responses to text in a thoughtful and organized way. They have been using the RACE strategy to help them. It is an acronym that stands for Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite text evidence and Explain the evidence. Check out their work below!

Biology students modeling the effects sugar and insulin have on blood glucose levels. Students are completing a series of investigations to help answer their unit question "Why did the marathon runner pass out?"
Tuesday the National Honor Society hosted a College Fair forstudents in our district, as well as for students from River Valley, Whiting, West Monona and Westwood. Treats were provided for the exhibitors by students in Hospitality & Tourism. The event was a complete success!
The students in the Mapleton elementary also participated in the Healthiest State Walk yesterday. It was a perfect day to get some fresh air and exercise!
